Indianapolis, Indiana

Is it possible to write a description of Indianapolis without mentioning the Brickyard and Indy 500 in the very first sentence? Well, no. But no matter, once the roar of the Indy cars fades out, Indianapolis still hums with hungry Midwesterners seeking out satisfying food and drink. And there’s plenty here to satisfy. If you’re feeling flush, drop by St. Elmo Steak House for the signature jumbo shrimp cocktail in a hot-as-the-dickens horseradish sauce and a juicy steak. Or for a less spendy time, simply have a beer at the ornate old oak bar that was first brought out at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893. If an old-time diner is more your style, check out the Fountain Square Diner, restored to all its 1950s-era glory, including a working soda fountain and Rock-Ola jukebox. The malted shakes are thick and rich, and the fries are crinkle cut. Folks can fuel up before the Indy 500 at the Champions Pasta Dinner and the annual pre-race breakfast. The event itself is a tailgating spectacle beyond equal.

Jerk Seasoning

Reviewed on Oct. 6, 2008 by Julie
This was a good substitute for bottled jerk seasoing since it is not available to buy in my area. My only complaint was I thought the cinnamon was a little over-powering and I would cut back on that next time.

Cheesy Baked Eggplant

Reviewed on Oct. 6, 2008 by Julie
My husband and I like this eggplant dish, but it was not appealing to the kidos, due to the eggplant and spinach leaves. Very flavorful.

Sweet and Sour Sauce I

Reviewed on Oct. 6, 2008 by Julie
I used this as a dip for Thai appetizers and loved it because I had all of the ingredients on hand and it tastes great, too!
