Software Engineer

Our Software Engineers participate in all areas of development, including front-end, back-end processes and middle-tier development, and internal applications. This position reports to the Software Engineering Manager.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Strong knowledge of the following technologies:
    • Object Oriented design and programming techniques
    • Service-Oriented Architecture
    • SQL – Stored Procedures, User-defined functions
    • .NET Framework 1.1, 2.0 and beyond
    • C# - Interfaces, Generics, and Delegates
    • ASP.NET – Web Services, User Controls, Custom Server Controls
    • HTML, CSS, DHTML, client-scripting with JavaScript
  • Familiarity with following technologies:
    • Flash and ActionScript
    • XSLT
    • AJAX
  • Must be a self-starter needing little direction and capable of working in a fast-paced development environment.
  • Must be willing to work from detailed specifications as well as being able to design and implement projects independently.
  • Candidates should be willing to participate in QA, Testing, HTML development, as well as providing internal support and operational support.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills required.

Experience Requirement

  • BS Degree in computer science or equivalent experience
  • Experience developing websites in ASP.NET/C#
  • Previous experience developing and supporting content management systems
  • Previous experience working with SQL Server

Systems Analyst

The Systems Analyst is responsible for analyzing business and functional requirements, collaborating with the technology team to document technical specifications, tracking change requests, researching technical questions, and leading the user acceptance testing effort for Allrecipes international expansion. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to development of the new solution set, leveraging the highly successful Allrecipes core site and building out new community-enhancing features. The position will report to the Director of International Solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Documentation: High level and detailed technical specifications for communication with the developers. This may include CSS updates, data requirements, caching times, nightly jobs, error scenarios. Occasionally third party applications may be investigated for integration with the platform.
  • Change Management: Track change requests from business and editorial. Consolidate into maintenance releases.
  • Research: Assist with editorial research requests and queries. May occasionally investigate third party technologies for possible integration with the platform or leveraging best-practices with new features.
  • Updates: Occasionally may be required to update HTML for newsletters or other documents.
  • Leading UAT: Create user acceptance test plans and execute them for platform features to check browser compatibility, usability, and adherence to the specifications for the project. UAT may include reading XML from third party vendors, or updating HTML. Coordinate editorial UAT with international content manager and country editors. Serve as point person for UAT bug documentation, tracking, and retesting.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years’ experience as a System Analyst with online applications or similar work experience with websites.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, and .NET framework (C#, ASP, ASP.NET, SQL Server.)
  • Working knowledge of the MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio)
  • Experience documenting functional and/or technical specifications.
  • Strong analytical, listening, problem solving, and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Understanding of the standard development lifecycle.
